James McAvoy will star in this highly anticipated adaptation of Cyrano De Bergerac at the Playhouse Theatre in London Despite his sizable snoot, Cyrano is a cocky and sharp-tongued wit who often finds himself in trouble with the nobility that he insults. Cyrano writes love letters signed with Christian's name, and Roxane doesn't realize that it's Cyrano's words she falls for. She marries Christian, and Cyrano continues to keep the other man's secret, even after tragedy strikes. She is unaware of this and does not feel the same way about him.
Then he finds a way to express his love to her, without her knowing the thoughts are coming from him. Adorned with a magnificent protuberance that resembles a nose, Cyrano de Bergerac, a romantic, swaggering 17th-century Gascon swordsman, finds it difficult to express his love for beautiful Roxane.
But, with his elongated nose standing in the way of happiness, Cyrano is shocked to discover that the love of his life has fallen for the handsome but shallow recruit to the Cadets de Gascogne, Christian de Neuvillette. As a result, convinced that he doesn't stand a chance against the dashing but inarticulate young suitor, Cyrano summons up the strength to step aside, and in a selfless act of kindness, decides to lend a hand with the delicate matters of love.
Now, the sensitive poet's carefully chosen words become Christian's passionate declarations of love, and defenceless Roxane, who is oblivious of what has been going on behind her back, has no other choice but to fall madly in love with the silver-tongued author of the seductive billets-doux. Cyrano boldly proclaims that he will see Ligniere safely home and, if necessary, fight all hundred men in the process.
She asks Cyrano to protect Christian, and he agrees. Cyrano angrily ignores them, upset by his meeting with Roxane. Delighted at first, Christian then becomes distraught. He considers Roxane an intellectual and sees himself as a simple, unpoetic man. Then Cyrano has a bright idea: Cyrano can write to Roxane -pretending to be Christian. Now, Cyrano can express all his thoughts and feelings secretly.
One night soon after, Roxane confides in Cyrano that she thinks Christian is the most ravishing poet in the world. Roxane storms into her house, confused and angry. Eventually, Cyrano shoves Christian aside and, under cover of darkness, pretends to be Christian, wooing Roxane himself.
In the process, he wins a kiss for Christian. Roxane and Christian are secretly married by a Capuchin, but their happiness is short-lived: de Guiche, angry to have lost Roxane, declares that he is sending the Cadets of Gascoyne to the front lines of the war with Spain.
