In addition, due to their easy care requirements, and the simplicity of replicating its natural environment, green anoles are perfect for experimental work , making them a perfect model organism for the genus Anolis. This could open a window into the effects of environmental stressors on anoles.

To determine the cause of the color change in green anoles, I will be creating a basic model of the anoles natural habitat to test and house them in. Anoles will be tested separately to ensure that conditions in terrariums are kept constant. To test stress, a disk will be pushed from one side of the terrarium to the other multiple times.

This will determine if anoles change color for thermoregulation. Color will be scored as a ratio of green to brown intensities , where a larger score indicates a greener color.

It is likely that anoles change color as a result of stress, and not for thermoregulation purposes. I will be creating basic setups to test and house the anoles in. Males cannot be housed together, so testing only females is more feasible. This includes lighting and heating for the testing tanks as well as a red disk to stress the anoles.

You may be wondering how stress levels cause anoles to become brown? When anoles feel stressed, they remain green and fall asleep at night. However, in the very morning, you will find them brown.

First, they may encounter environmental stress. It can occur because of either hotness or coldness of the environment or habitat and the starring of cats while you are not attentive.

The second is the psychosocial pressure. When you keep two or more anoles, there are chances that your anole changes color.

Anoles do change colors, and there are multiple meanings to them. There is a color spectrum because of three layers of coloration cells whose common names are chromatophores.

If there is a lack of any of the above pigment genes, there occurs color changing. Because of these mutations in colors, three phases become apparent.

First, the lack of xanthophores causes anoles to become blue-phased Carolina. When anoles entirely lack or are devoid of xanthophores, they are axanthic and will be completely blue. However, it is very rare because, in anoles, only one appears to be baby-blue hue. Secondly, when they have fewer cyanophora, they become yellow-phased Carolina anoles. There is the availability of such anoles. However, they can hardly survive because they are not green anymore since the green color used to work as camouflage for them against predators and prey alike.

Green anoles are peaceful animals. Thus, humans do not have any type of fear of them even if they change colors, from green to brown and vice versa. They work as pesticides when they eat insects like cockroaches, flies, beetles, crickets, and grasshoppers.
